The Grote of Martinikerk in Doesburg is the highest church in Gelderland at 94 metres and served as a source of inspiration for this series. Five copies were made, each in different colours and designs. No two copies are the same. All works are stamped on the back with the initials CR. This is number 1 in a series of 5 and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This artwork prefers to be placed in a spot where sunlight shines, such as a windowsill. The sunlight creates an explosion of colors that changes throughout the day.
The Kerkhaan (windcock) is made of pieces of colored 'art' glass, which are seamlessly connected by cutting, sawing and grinding. A second layer of colorless glass is then placed over the whole, which ensures that everything becomes one whole when it is heated in a special glass oven to approximately 800°C. The process from closing the oven to opening it again takes approximately 24 hours. This results in a beautifully smooth work of art that now forms one whole.
