This work is inspired by the statue of Jonkheer Willem de Vaynes van Brakell, which stands in the Van Brakelhofje in Doesburg. On November 23, 1813, Van Brakell saved Doesburg from being plundered by the French. His residence was located at the back of the Van Brakelhofje.
The back of the piece is stamped with the initials CR and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The glass artwork is framed and measures 32x23cm.
The work is made from pieces of colored "art" glass, which are seamlessly joined together through cutting, sawing, and grinding. A second layer of colorless glass is then placed over the entire piece, ensuring it becomes one whole when heated in a special glass kiln to around 800°C. The process, from closing the kiln to when it can be opened again, takes approximately 24 hours. This results in a beautifully smooth artwork that is now a single cohesive piece.
